The Institute for Animal Science

bundles - together with the workgroup of Professor Büscher of the Institute of Agricultural Engineering - competences in the complex field of animal food production. The cooperation enables the interdisciplinary conception of problem-solving-oriented research and at the same time can achieve the necessary focus on innovative research fields in an international context. This also ensures the high quality of education and training by the Bonn animal sciences for the future as part of agriculture as a system science.

The institute currently comprises the following research groups.

  • Physiology (Prof. Dr. Dr. Helga Sauerwein)
  • Farm Animal Ethology (Jun. Prof. Dr. Jenny Stracke)
  • Animal Breeding (interim professorship: Dr. E. Tholen)
  • Animal Genetics (Dr. E. Tholen)
  • Process and Product Management (Dr. Céline Heinemann)

The area of animal husbandry is covered by the Department of Precision Livestock Farming which for organizational reasons is assigned to the Institute of Agricultural Engineering.
